Ingredients

  • 2 cup fresh blueberries Hulled only if needed; keep dry for tight rows.
  • 2 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved Halve for even, stripe-ready pieces.
  • 8 oz white cheddar or mozzarella, cubed Cube into consistent sizes for uniform white stripes.
savory stripes and crunch
  • 8 oz pepperoni slices Fold for striped alignment across the board.
  • 1 cup white cheddar crackers or Ritz crackers Use one type for a clean white stripe pattern.
  • 1 cup pretzel sticks Optional border tool for crisp, straight lines.
dipping and garnish
  • 4 oz cream cheese or ranch dip (for dipping) Spoon into a small bowl and place near the edge.
  • 1 rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional) Tuck along the edges for a finished look.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Set up the flag base
  1. Set a large rectangular wooden board, sheet pan, or serving tray on a flat surface for easy arranging.
  2. In the upper left corner, fill a rectangle densely with fresh blueberries to form the canton, pressing lightly so the area looks solid.
Build the red stripes
  1. Arrange halved strawberries in rows across the length of the board to create the red stripe pattern.
  2. Fold pepperoni slices and place them in folded rows across the length of the board so the red areas form consistent, vivid stripes.
Add the white stripes
  1. Fill the white stripes with rows of white cheddar cubes and crackers alternating between the red rows.
Clean borders, dip, and garnish
  1. Use pretzel sticks to define the stripe borders if needed for clean lines.
  2. Place a small bowl of cream cheese or ranch dip in one corner, tuck rosemary sprigs at the edges, and serve immediately.

Notes

Pro tip: keep berries dry before assembling so the stripes hold their shape and the crackers stay crisp. Store assembled boards in the refrigerator up to 1 day (best texture if assembled close to serving); freeze is not recommended because berries and crackers lose structure. For a lighter option, swap pepperoni and cheese for turkey pepperoni and a lower-fat cheese alternative without changing the layout.
