Ingredients

Campfire Cones
  • 6 waffle ice cream cones 6 waffle cones, ready to fill.
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows For the gooey melted layer.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use semi-sweet for a classic melt.
  • 1 cup banana slices Slice into thin rounds for even warming.
  • 0.5 cup strawberries, diced Keep pieces small so they soften quickly.
  • 0.5 cup graham cracker pieces Adds the crunchy graham texture.
  • 1 can (15 oz) aluminum foil Enough to wrap each cone completely.

Equipment

  • 1 cast iron skillet

Method

Fill the cones
  1. Fill each waffle cone with a layer of mini marshmallows, then add a layer of chocolate chips.
  2. Add banana slices, then spoon in diced strawberries.
  3. Top each cone with graham cracker pieces so the filling is stacked in visible layers.
Warm over the campfire
  1. Wrap each filled cone completely in aluminum foil, sealing around the edges so the filling stays contained.
  2. Place the wrapped cones on a campfire grate over medium heat for 4-5 minutes, rotating occasionally to warm evenly.
Cool and serve
  1. Remove the cones from the fire and let cool for 2 minutes so the marshmallows thicken slightly.
  2. Carefully unwrap the foil and eat with a spoon while the chocolate and marshmallows are still melted.

Notes

Pro tip: keep the fruit pieces fairly small so they soften during the 4-5 minutes without turning watery. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; the cone may soften. Freezing isn’t recommended because the fruit texture changes. If you need a dairy-free option, use dairy-free chocolate chips and dairy-free marshmallows.
