Method
Coat the Chex
- Measure Chex cereal into a very large bowl and set aside; the pieces should be dry and ready for coating.
- Melt white chocolate chips and butter together in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until completely smooth and glossy.
- Pour melted white chocolate over the Chex and stir gently until every piece is evenly coated and glistening.
Dust with powdered sugar and cool
- Transfer the coated cereal into a large zip-lock bag, add powdered sugar, seal, and shake vigorously until all pieces are well coated.
- Spread onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let cool for 30 minutes until set, keeping the layer even so it firms up.
Finish the patriotic mix
- Transfer to a large bowl and toss with red and blue M&Ms and star sprinkles so the colors are evenly distributed.
- Serve in a big bowl or individual bags, with visible red and blue candies throughout and powdered sugar dusting on top.
Notes
For the smoothest coating, melt the white chocolate in short microwave bursts and stir between each stop until fully glossy. Store airtight at room temperature for up to 3 days; the sprinkles and candies keep best when added right before serving. Freezing is not recommended because powdered sugar can lose texture after thawing. For a gluten-free option, use certified gluten-free Chex cereal and keep all other ingredients unchanged.
