Watermelon Sangria

Watermelon sangria is a blush-pink summer sangria made by blending watermelon into fresh juice, then mixing it with rosé (or white wine) and chilled citrus. You’ll get a party pitcher drink with juicy watermelon cubes, mint garnish, and a gently fizzy finish from sparkling water.

Ingredients

Watermelon Sangria Base
  • 2 cup fresh watermelon Reserve 2 cups to blend until smooth, then use the juice for the base.
  • 2 cup fresh watermelon Add as cubes after the base is mixed.
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry rosé or white wine Choose dry rosé for the classic blush look, or white wine for a lighter taste.
  • 0.5 cup watermelon vodka or plain vodka Use watermelon vodka for extra watermelon flavor.
  • 0.25 cup triple sec
  • 2 tbsp honey or simple syrup
  • 1 lime Thinly sliced, for floating in the pitcher.
  • 1 lemon Thinly sliced, for floating in the pitcher.
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda Add right before serving to keep it lively.
  • 0.5 fresh mint sprigs For garnish in ice-filled glasses.

Equipment

  • 1 fine mesh sieve
  • 1 pitcher
  • 1 blender

Method

Blend the watermelon juice
  1. Blend 2 cups of watermelon cubes until smooth, then strain through a fine mesh sieve to get 1 cup of fresh watermelon juice.
Mix the sangria in a pitcher
  1. Combine the watermelon juice, rosé wine, vodka, triple sec, and honey in a large pitcher and stir to combine.
Add fruit and citrus
  1. Add the remaining watermelon cubes, lime slices, and lemon slices to the pitcher, spreading them out so the fruit is visible throughout.
Chill and meld flavors
  1. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to chill and allow flavors to meld, until the mixture is well chilled.
Finish and serve
  1. Right before serving, top with sparkling water, stir gently, and pour into ice-filled glasses garnished with fresh mint.

Notes

Pro tip: strain the blended watermelon for a smoother, less pulpy base that keeps the pitcher looking clean and pink. Refrigerate covered for up to 2 days (add sparkling water only when serving); freezing is not recommended. For a lower-sugar option, use simple syrup only to taste or swap honey for a sugar-free simple syrup if desired.
